Rhubarb ‘Raspberry Red’ is a vigorous and easy-to-grow variety ideal for planting in autumn or spring. These budded pieces are taken from established crowns, so mature quickly and provide a good crop within the first two years. This particular variety is exceptionally long cropping, producing well-flavoured stalks from early in the spring onwards. These delicious red stems are ideal for use in cooked desserts, pies and crumbles. As a hardy perennial plant, you can enjoy a fresh harvest every year, making it great value too!Plant rhubarb from autumn to spring in a sunny position in well-drained soil. When planting rhubarb crowns, set them so that the top of the crown sits 3cm (1") below soil level and allow a spacing of 75cm (30") between plants. In spring, remove the emerging flower heads as they appear. From the second year, stems can be harvested from April to June, when the leaves have fully unfurled. Pull from the base of each stem and twist them away from the crown. Harvest only a few stems at a time. Water rhubarb plants in summer during dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. Caution: The leaves of rhubarb plants are toxic if eaten.Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade. Height: Up to 60cm when fully established. Spread: Up to 1.2m when fully established.
