A popular hedging variety for wildlife lovers and foragers, producing an impressive show of white blossom in spring which attracts pollinators, followed by blue-black berries which are loved by wild birds. These berries can also be picked and used to make sloe gin. This thorny variety forms a dense hedge which adds an extra level of security as well as privacy to your garden boundaries. Perfect for informal gardens, it’s easy to grow in most conditions, tolerating sun or shade and is easy to keep to the shape and size required with regular pruning or clipping. Supplied as 60 - 90cm bareroots (24 - 35") Height: 4m (13'). Spread: 4m (13'). Planting Distance: 25cm (10"). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).Plant Blackthorn in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Ideally grown in full sun. Plant bare root hedging as soon as possible after delivery. For hedgerow planting, position the plants around 45cm apart. Water-in thoroughly after planting and keep well watered until established.
