Daphne transatlantica ‘Pink Fragrance’ is a truly remarkable and highly rewarding easy plant to grow, producing non-stop blooms from April right through to October each year. As with all daphnes, the pretty blooms fill the air with an incredible, sweet fragrance, plus it flowers on new growth, so they just keep coming! This unusual semi-evergreen variety provides year-round colour and structure for the relatively short time that it’s not in flower (during autumn and winter), which makes it all the more useful. With a compact, slow growth habit, it’s the ideal low-maintenance choice for growing in patio containers or for small gardens, but is also a valuable addition to large mixed borders. Pot up Daphne shrubs and grow them on in frost free conditions. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting in their final positions. Transplant Daphne plants into borders and containers outdoors in moist, fertile, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Choose a position in sun or semi shade. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, Daphne plants require only occasional attention. Pruning of Daphne is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering.
