Forsythia is that yellow flowering shrub that everyone asks about each spring. Bare stems cloaked in golden-yellow flowers are produced in early spring, at a time when almost nothing else is in bloom in the garden. Thompson & Morgan Forsythia ‘Goldrausch’ is a compact variety, which can be either grown in a border or trained against a wall as a colourful hedge. An excellent plant for smaller gardens, Forsythia are easy to grow, easy to prune and will last for many years. Choose a position in full sun or semi-shade when growing Thompson & Morgan Forsythia ‘Goldrausch’ and plant in moist, well-drained soil. Feed and water regularly until fully established. Container grown Forsythia plants will require annual dressing with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser and regular watering throughout the summer months. Prune Forsythia by cutting back all flowered shoots to a pair of healthy buds in late spring, once flowering has finished. On more established plants, cut back up to a fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, in order to encourage healthy new growth and improve flowering. After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
