Product Description :

An ornamental deciduous shrub with wide spreading branches which form an attractive broad habit, providing structure all through the year. From spring onwards, velvety buds open to reveal pink-tinged white blooms which cloak the branches, followed by a dense covering of lush green foliage. A second colour show can be enjoyed in autumn when the leaves turn to a rich buttery yellow before falling to reveal the sculptural bare framework. A wonderful choice for providing low-maintenance structural interest in mixed borders, or as a standalone specimen shrub or small tree. Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant. When growing magnolia in a patio container use a blend of ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young magnolias are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted bark chips or garden compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems or crossing stems.
