Thompson & Morgan Physocarpus Opulifolius 'Amber Jubilee' makes a highly decorative addition to garden borders. This delightful hardy deciduous shrub has a compact rounded habit that is perfect for small gardens and mixed borders, where it provides year-round interest.Salmon orange foliage emerges in spring before maturing to green by late summer. From June, clusters of small creamy white flowers form neat balls at the tips of each branch which are replaced later in the season by burgundy fruits. With the chill of autumn in the air, this colourful Ninebark takes on fiery shades of red and purple before the leaves fall to reveal attractive peeling bark in mature specimens. Plant Thompson & Morgan Physocarpus Opulifolius 'Amber Jubilee' in full sun or semi shade, in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Physocarpus plants prefer an acidic to neutral soil, but will tolerate more alkaline soils, although may they may become chlorotic in very chalky areas. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seed heads are required for late season interest. Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
