Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ is a particularly striking cultivar, awarded an RHS AGM for its garden performance. Pale yellow flowers borne in spring make a fabulous contrast with the deep purple foliage, and the red berries that follow stand out beautifully against the dark leaves. As autumn approaches, the foliage responds by turning a vibrant, scarlet red before falling to the ground for the winter. Loved by pollinating insects, and very useful in wildlife areas, Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ makes a colourful specimen shrub. Choose a position in full sun or partial when growing Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ and plant in reliably moist, well-drained soil. Japanese Barberry plants are extremely resilient and will grow on many different soil types, however they should never been grown in areas which are prone to waterlogging.
