These long lasting tightly clustered purple florets will provide you with stunning colour all summer long, standing atop long stalks. Great for attracting bees and butterflies to your garden, these will flower from July through to October. Pot up Verbena bonariensis plants and grow them on in frost free conditions, for transplanting into borders later on. When all risk of frost has passed and plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant outdoors in a sheltered position in any moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. Verbena flowers do not require dead heading. In autumn, apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant throughout the winter months. Cut back the old stems when new shoots emerge at the base of the plant in spring. Premium perennials are large plug tray plants, roughly the same size as garden ready plants like a potted plant without a pot. They will need to be acclimatised to the garden, and once all chance of frost has cleared can be planted out directly into the garden.
