In a league of its own amongst Kalanchoe, in addition to fabulous foliage 'Desert Surprise' also sprays of hundreds of tiny purple flowers borne on tall stems in October. Originating from arid areas of Africa, this Flaming Katy is easy to grow and drought-tolerant, so it makes a great gift and a brilliant houseplant choice for beginners! Treat this Kalanchoe like a cactus, keeping it on the dry side with only infrequent watering, and completely dry in winter. The foliage will have the best colour when grown in direct sun. Kalanchoe is an adaptable plant, growing happily in average room temperatures of 18C (65F) - 24C (75F). A bright sunny windowsill is ideal, although scorching midday summer sun should be avoided.
