Part of our Botanical Infusions range, this exotic herb heralds from Central and South America and is something unusual to try if you enjoy growing your own herbs and fragrant plants.Aztec Sweet Herb 'Colada' has been used since the Aztec Civilisation as a natural, sugary flavouring – use the harvested leaves to sweeten tea, fruit salads or cold desserts without the calories of sugar! Its green, sometimes purplish leaves, have a sweet, minty scent and contain compounds called hernandulcin, which gives them their intense, sugary taste and the roots have a liquorice flavour. Plants also produce small white flowers in the summer.Trailing and ground covering, grow your Aztec Sweet Herb plants in border or container – they look especially good when grown in a hanging basket, where the long tendrils can dangle for easy picking. Pot up plug plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions until plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out. This half-hardy plant needs a sheltered, sunny spot.
