‘Shetland Black’ is a disease resistant second early variety that is easy to grow in potato pots and grow bags or allotment beds. originally grown in the Shetland Isles, it is unknown exactly when it was introduced but it was added to the National Collection in 1923. The initial sprouts are black before forming green foliage. Plants produce purple-skinned, long oval tubers from June to August. This heritage variety produces unique tubers with a dark purple ring around inside edge of the floury, white flesh.
