Product Description :

Foraging for wild fruits has become the latest craze, and this selection of well-known varieties enables you to create your own beautifully mixed hedgerow so you can forage without even having to leave your own garden! We have put together this foragers collection, including Elder, Crab Apple, Wild Cherry, Sea Buckthorn and Blackthorn, which can be used in a range of recipes as well as providing essential food and habitat for wild animals. These carefully-selected bare-root plants make a great-looking mixed hedge for year-round interest, or you can grow them as shrubs around the garden. Blackthorn will produce sloes which are famously used for making sloe gin but can also be used to make jam or jelly. Crab Apples can be cooked into desserts or made into crab apple jelly, as they are high in pectin. Elderflowers and berries have many uses, wine and cordial drinks being popular. Sea Buckthorn has bright orange fruits that are rich in vitamin C and E. Wild Cherries can be cooked into pies and tarts with sugar to make them a tasty dessert. Plant bare root hedging as soon as possible after delivery. Before planting, incorporate well-rotted manure into the planting area. Dig a hole deep enough to fit the length of the roots and position one plant in each hole, then firm down. For hedgerow planting, position the plants around 45cm apart. Water-in after planting and keep watered until established. In areas where rabbits can be a problem, it’s worthwhile to place rabbit guards on your plants. Clip your hedging plants regularly to encourage them to bush out. Water until fully established. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plants in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stems. Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade Height: Up to 12m when fully established Spread: Up to 8m when fully established Supplied as 25x Foragers Hedging Collection Bare Root Plants Features: Foragers Hedging Collection comprises hardy bare root varieties which produce edible fruit.
