Effortlessly beautiful, this hardy annual Flax is at its best when planted among other annuals and perennials to create an eclectic, unrestrained feel – perfect for mingling into cottage garden borders or dotting through rockeries. Linum grandiflorum 'Salmon Bright Eyes' plants form a loose clump of slender foliage, flowering all summer long with a lovely informality and loose and airy habit. Plants produce an elegant display of salmon pink blooms, each with a deep orange eye and pollinating insects appreciate the nectar-rich blooms. Height: 50cm (20"). Spread: 40cm (16").Direct sow Linum seeds outdoors where they are to grow from April to May. Choose a position in full sun on well-drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 1cm (&frac;1/2”) and cover seed with its own depth of soil to exclude light. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 14-21 days. When Linum seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12”) apart. Alternatively, sow indoors from March to April at a temperature of 20-25C (70-75F). When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors.
