Product Description :
Bountiful crops of superb quality fruits are produced by Redcurrant Laxtons Number One, borne in long strings in July and August. The shiny fruits are an attractive colour, adding interest to your garden and with a delicious taste despite being small. This variety is well-known for its superior resistance to mildew, helping to ensure crops are more reliable than those produced by others. Flowering later than most other varieties, Laxtons Number One avoids damage from late frosts. Redcurrants are extremely versatile and can be used in everything from summer puddings to pies, jelly and even wine-making. Redcurrant plants will attract pollinators and birds to your garden, but they usually leave plenty of fruit for you to enjoy too!Newly planted Redcurrant bushes should be kept well-watered in dry weather, but well-established plants rarely need watering. If your plant is potted, ensure that the compost does not dry out. Hoe or hand weed the soil carefully to ensure that the soil is kept free from weeds. Redcurrant plants bear their fruit on old wood, so prune bushes in winter by removing diseased or very old branches and then in early summer prune new growth back to two buds to ensure the plant remains compact. Potted plants should be placed on feet to allow excess water to drain from the holes in the bottom to ensure that the roots dont rot over winter.Position: sun or semi-shade.
