With red, funnel shaped flowers from mid spring, followed by these intensifying throughout the summer through to mid-autumn, you are guaranteed months of colour. Against the green leaves these bright blooms really do look fantastic whether planted in a pot or at the front of a border. Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
