Ceanothus thysiflorus var. repens, also known as Californian Lilac, is a spreading evergreen shrub with a low mound-forming habit, creating a wonderful bushy ground cover for year-round interest. During late summer, this attractive variety is covered in a profusion of dense blue flower clusters which are a magnet for a wide range of butterflies and bees. Awarded and RHS AGM for its outstanding garden performance, this low-maintenance plant will reward you with an exceptionally long season of interest, either as ground cover in borders or trained against a wall. What’s more, the blooms carry emit a heady fragrance which will waft around the garden, especially on warm days. Plant Californian Lilac into any fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a position in full sun with shelter from cold, drying winds. Ceanothus may be grown as a free-standing specimen or trained against a wall or fence.
