Hydrangea ‘Nikko Blue’ is a fantastic, low-maintenance way to inject a bold splash of colour to the garden from summer into autumn. Large, rounded mophead flowers are bright blue when grown in acid soils, or they adopt a pink hue in more alkaline soils. Ideal for growing in shrubberies or as an undemanding structural feature in mixed borders. Its naturally compact, bushy shape means it looks neat with very little intervention, it can also be grown in large patio containers for many years. The blooms make impressive cut flowers and can easily be dried for use in dried flower arrangement too. Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.
