Thompson & Morgan Magnolia x Soulangeana ‘Alba Superba’ is an elegant deciduous shrub which has remained extremely popular over the years. Magnolia x soulangeana 'Alba Superba' creates an iconic spring display that is often seen in gardens throughout the UK. Large, fragrant, white goblet-shaped blooms emerge flushed with purple-red, just as the dark green foliage begins to unfurl. This cultivar is particularly useful in a garden setting as it retains a shapely upright form as it matures. Height: 7m (22'). Spread: 5m (15'). Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded.
