An attractive ground cover perennial which provides a long season of interest, Houttuynia Cordata has aromatic, vibrant green heart-shaped leaves along with deep red stems between spring and autumn. In summer it treats you to a showy display of crisp white flowers. With a vigorous, spreading habit, this resilient perennial will tolerate most conditions and quickly form an attractive, dense ground cover. Happy in sun, partial shade or dappled shade and a variety of soils, from poor dry soils to wet margins of ponds. This hardy perennial is both moisture and drought tolerant, and thrives in almost any position from sun to dappled shade. Plant Houttuynia in any garden soil, or in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a depth of 10cm (4") below water level. In favourable conditions, Houttuynia will spread freely, but can be easily contained if planted in containers. Feed and water Houttuynia plants regularly until fully established. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Houttuynia in Spring to maintain plant vigour.
