Blackberry ‘Karaka Black’ is known for its high yields and impressively large fruit - the huge berries are some of the largest we’ve ever seen! Not only are they large, but they’re delicious too, with a firm and juicy texture perfectly-balanced blackberry flavour. This mid-season variety starts to crop a little earlier than traditional varieties, normally from around July onwards, and continues to produce fruit over a very long season. You can enjoy these fantastic berries fresh, in desserts, preserves or juiced – plus any left over can be frozen for use at a later date. Blackberry ‘Karaka Black’ establishes quickly and very easy to grow, thriving in most soils and conditions. It does need a bit of space to ramble so a kitchen garden or allotment is ideal. Our 1 year old plants are container grown rather than field grown to provide you with stronger, superior quality plants.Grow blackberry plants in a sunny position in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the ground prior to planting. When growing blackberry plants it is necessary to support the stems on a framework of wires stretched between sturdy 1.8m (6') posts, or trained against a trellis or wall.Water well for the first year until blackberry plants are fully established. Train the stems onto their supports as they grow. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop.Position: Full Sun .
