Product Description :
Introducing the Vigor 2760, our latest DSL router, ideal for your home or small office. It provides connectivity to your PCs or other Internet-connected devices (laptops, tablets, games consoles, smartphones) via its built-in Gigabit ports, or using Wireless LAN (on 'n' models). The firewall helps protect your network from external threats, as well as the Vigor2760's built-in content filtering which gives you control over what and when your local users can access or download. For Wireless LAN usage, the Vigor2760n version supports multiple security methods, including strong encryption but also hardware-specific authorization and selectable client isolation (from each other). The Vigor 2760 supports all variants of mass-market DSL technology available, so if you have ADSL today it will work with that, but when VDSL (FTTC) comes to your area later, you're ready, already. VDSL is available from BT under their 'Infinity' service, currently providing downstream speeds of up to 80Mb/s (depending on local service). Other ISPs are also starting to introduce VDSL across the country so coverage continues to increase. You can also use 3G/4G networks (see later). Most of us are still mostly using IPv4 as our Internet protocol (the system that gives us IP addresses like 194.158.12.42) but that's going to change; over the next few years, IPv6 will increase in usage and eventually we'll all be using IPv6, so the Vigor2760 already supports it - IPv4 and IPv6 can be run simultaneously (dual-stack) on the Vigor2760.
The content control features of the Vigor 2760 allow you to set restrictions on web site access, blocking download of certain file or data types, blocking specific web sites with whitelists (a lit of allowed sites) or blacklists (a list of blocked sites), blocking IM/P2P applications or other potentially harmful or time-wasting content. This is particularly useful in the home, where children need to be protected, or workplaces where inappropriate sites may be a liability, security risk or harmful to productivity. Restrictions can be per user, per PC or universal. Using DrayTek's GlobalView service, you can block whole categories of web sites (e.g. gambling, adult sites etc.), subject to an annual subscription to the Globalview service, which is continuously updated with new or changed site categorizations or sites which have become compromised (such as infected with Malware). A free 30-day Globalview trial is included with your new router. The Vigor 2760 has two USB ports which can be used for 3G/3G modems, USB memory or a printer for shared access. You can connect a USB 3G/4G modem to the Vigor2760 and use the cellular networks (O2, EE, Vodafone, Virgin, 3) as your Internet connectivity. That can be your primary (only) connection, or the router can switch over to 3G in the case of ADSL/VDSL outage so that you're always connected. Check with us for the latest list of supported 3G modems as it is continuously updated as the telcos introduce new modem models. You can use your Vigor 2760 as a network attached storage (NAS) repository. This allows you to store files for local or remote users (anywhere on the Internet) to download - ideal for when you're on the move. You can also let users upload files - each remote user can have their own login and read-only or read-write FTP access to a preset directory. The Vigor 2760 has 40Mb of memory built-in for NAS but you can add a USB memory stick for as much storage as you need.
