The advanced digital luminosity sensor TSL2561 is more precise, allowing for exact lux calculations as it can be configured for different gain/timing ranges to detect light ranges from 0.1 lux up to over 40,000 lux. This sensor contains both infrared and full spectrum diodes to measure infrared, full-spectrum or human-visible light separately. It can be used with any 3 V to 5V power/logic microcontroller and the digital I²C interface. The built in ADC enables use with any microcontroller, even if it doesn't have analog inputs. The current draw is about 0.5 mA when sensing and less than 15 µA else to enable low power data-logging systems. A detailed tutorial shows how to wire up the sensor, use it with an Arduino and example code gets readings and calculates lux.
