Scarborough is one of England s finest seaside resorts with a wealth of attractions but if you want to venture further afield there are many lovely places to visit. Taking the coast road north you will find picturesque Robin Hood s Bay with its clustered old houses clinging to the cliffside and the famous old fishing port of Whitby its Abbey ruins perched high above the busy harbour. Or drive inland to the beautiful unspoilt North Yorkshire Moors and to pretty towns and villages like Hutton-le-Hole Lastingham and Thornton-le-Dale. For some of the finest scenery take a ride on one of the old steam trains which run from Pickering to Grosmont. If you like something a little grander try a visit to Castle Howard or spend a day in historic York with its ancient Minster and city walls. Or for complete peace and quiet maybe a restful walk in Dalby Forest.
