Monk Coniston is a historic Gothic-style country house owned by the National Trust with an enviable location on the shores of Coniston Water and views of the surrounding fells. The eight acres of grounds include a restored walled garden and tree trail. There are 34 bedrooms located in the main house and adjoining cottages. The ornate public rooms include a comfortable lounge and dining room both with lake views bar and a minstrels gallery. The Lake District is renowned for its excellent walking routes whether you prefer gentle lakeside strolls or more challenging mountain routes. Windermere and Grasmere and the summits of Old Man of Coniston and the Langdale Pikes are all close by. Sightseeing options include Wordsworth s Dove Cottage at Grasmere Beatrix Potter s farm at Near Sawrey a cruise on Coniston Water or a ride the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway.
