J D Wetherspoon is proud to open the new hotel at The Crown in Worcester. This addition can be considered as a return to the building s history and heritage as an old coach house and inn. Eighteen en suite rooms including one with access for those with disabilities provide guests with free Wi-Fi access Freeview televisions and digital temperature control. The friendly and inviting adjacent pub makes The Crown an outstanding stay for leisure or business. Please note that children under the age of 18 are welcome into our pub up until 9pm. /p Worcester is an attractive and historic city situated right on England s largest river the River Severn. The 12th-century Worcester Cathedral towers over the city providing a unique landscape for all to enjoy. The last battle of the English Civil War took place here and the city also has historic ties with the great British composer Edward Elgar. The city is linked magnificently with the M5 motorway and has access to two well-located train stations. The city also boasts quaint shops and high-quality restaurants. /p Local attractions /p Race Course /p Excellent for horse-racing and private functions plus conferences and meetings. Races have been held here since 1718 and it is a national hunt course. There is regular racing throughout the summer. /p Worcester Cricket Club /p One of 18 major county cricket clubs in the English and Welsh cricket structure Worcester Cricket Club was formed in 1865. As well as the high standard of cricket played here the club house can also provide facilities for meetings conferences and functions. /p Worcester Warriors /p Founded in 1871 the team plays in the championship. The home stadium is Sixways Stadium built in the 1970s. It provides various facilities for meetings and gatherings as well as showcasing some fantastic rugby. /p Edward Elgar /p Born in Lower Broadheath just outside Worcester and an active member of Worcester Glee Club Elgar was also a fantastic composer of music. Many of Elgar s residences were based in Worcester including a popular music shop. /p Worcester Cathedral /p This dates from the 12th century and is an Anglican cathedral. It holds regular services and recitals and visitors are always welcome. An outstanding piece of architecture. /p River Severn /p The largest river in England the Severn cuts right through the city and is perfect for rowing and summer boat trips. The source in Plynlimon (Wales) and the mouth filters into the Bristol Channel. The combination of the river and cathedral can provide some fantastic photography opportunities. /p Malvern Hills /p These can be seen from many parts of Worcester city. They incorporate fantastic geological and archaeological history as well as providing outstanding views of the Worcestershire county and surrounding areas along with walking opportunities. /p County Show Ground /p The Three Counties Showground holds regular shows and fairs throughout the year whatever the weather and for all interests. /p
