Nanny Brow stands majestically on the steep fell side of Loughrigg on its own private crag just west of Ambleside with unrivalled views down the River Brathay to the Lakeland Fells beyond. A short walk through semi ancient woodland takes you to a superb lookout to watch the sail boats on Windermere and a further pull takes you to Lily Tarn Ivy Crag and miles of superb walks over Loughrigg Fell. The house is an Arts and amp Crafts gem built in 1904 by the distinguished architect Francis Whitwell FRIBA. Whitwell who practiced with Guy Dawber in London came to Ambleside to settle and built his family home using traditional Lakeland stone on the solid rock of Nanny Brow. This imposing country house boasts many subtle features so characteristic of the Arts and amp Crafts movement including gentle motifs of animals and flowers in the plasterwork oak panelling and leaded oak picture windows facing the valley and the hills. We have sought to combine the relaxing air of a family home with excellent levels of comfort and service offering just ten bedrooms. Many of the original Arts and Crafts features have been retained and complemented with antique furniture and contemporary fabrics. We have an elegant lounge for guests to use at their leisure a cosy sitting room with bar and five acres of grounds to relax and explore as well as our own private car park. Furniture of the period is offset by luxuriously modern en suites sumptuous beds free wireless internet and digital televisions. All the rooms are individually designed and furnished with most having stunning views of the Lakeland fells.
