Huntstile Farmhouse formerly a Manor House was built around 1430 and still retains many original features such as huge walk-in fireplace and wide elm Tudor doorways and beams. The house has been added to over the centuries in keeping with its tasteful design.
In 2006 we re-planted 3 orchards and they are now fruiting well and we make delicious apple juice and (not so delicious) cider. Cider-making that s a huge learning curve.
There are 8 delightful bedrooms ranging from a standard double to a huge master bedroom with luxury bathroom. Some rooms have showers and some baths and showers.
We are situated in 270 acres of organic farmland. John s father farmed here until the 1970 s and then John took up the reigns. We have pigs goats chickens and more recently we have acquired a micro dairy of Pedigree Dairy Shorthorn cows producing delicious milk cream and butter.
If any of our guests would like to help feed the animals or learn a bit more about them please feel free to ask.
Somerset is a beautiful county with wonderful countryside as well as beaches and there are lots of walking opportunities for all tastes from the farm gate. Well known for its apples and cider we have so much more! Somerset is a very fertile growing region and that is why there are so many wonderful food producers in the area: pasture-grazed beef and lamb free-ranging pigs geese and chickens fish a magnificent array of fine cheeses the tastiest vegetables strawberries to die for and glorious pies breads and pastry products.
This is a region rich with wildlife from buzzards and foxes to badgers hares and the majestic giant red deer. There are several local wildlife projects run by the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust and many areas preserved for nature. We at Huntstile have a superb population of yellowhammers and skylarks.
