Martineau Guest House has won the North East Bed and Breakfast/Guest Accommodation award 2014. It takes its name from Harriet Martineau one of the great social reformers of the 19th century and an important local figure. Harriet lived in the house for five years during the 1840s and wrote many of her most important works here.

All our rooms are en-suite and well equipped. Start the day with choices from our award winning breakfast menus served in our open plan kitchen and featuring the best of traditional local produce lovingly prepared.

Enjoy our organic homemade bread and conserves. Vegetarian and vegan menu also available.
