Timber framed housing pottery and the remains of clay-lined salt evaporation chambers have been excavated. Middlewich boasts a superb Parish Church in the town centre whose history dates back to Roman times. Middlewich is a key junction on the bustling waterway here the Trent & Mersey joins the Shropshire Union Canal.
Today these Canals and rivers are still a major feature of the landscape around Middlewich and there are many walks that run alongside them.
