Description

The village of Netley near the city s outskirts is home to Netley Abbey a ruined 13th-century monastery and church. Take in the breath-taking views of this beautiful abbey which was founded by the Bishop of Winchester in 1238 when complete the abbey was home to about 15 monks and 30 officials and servants! The ruins as they stand today reflect over 800 years of change during which the abbey was transformed from a monastic house to a mansion house and later to a romantic ruin!

The Royal Victoria Hospital or Netley Hospital was a large military hospital in Netley. Construction started in 1856 at the suggestion of Queen Victoria but its design caused some controversy chiefly from Florence Nightingale! The chapel is the only remains left of the original building which has been transformed into an excellent visitors centre within the grounds of the Royal Victoria country park.

Let s not forget there is lots of fun stuff for the kids in Victoria Country Park as well. With beautiful winding walks to explore multiple play parks to keep little ones happy as well as a miniature railway a day at the park has something for everyone. A visit to the tea rooms is a must whether you fancy a yummy cake a delicious lunch or a tasty snack (they even cater for the kiddies with excellent reasonably priced lunch boxes). The park is open every day all year round.

Lastly let s not forget the stunning views from our Netley waterfront property. You can relax on the outdoor decked area or the upper balcony and simply watch the world go by. See the many cruise ships that enter our Port every day gliding effortlessly past your door. It s a wonder to watch and an experience that you will simply never ever forget.
