Sandwich is close to the Cathedral City of Canterbury the channel tunnel at Folkestone and only a few miles from the cross-channel ports of Dover. There are many leisure activities and attractions nearby including golf with the Open Championship Links Courses or Royal St Georges Princes and Royal Cinque Ports Sandwich itself has a history pre dating Roman times and the narrow winding streets with overhanging buildings make Sandwich one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. The first recorded mention of the Fleur de Lis was in 1642 when the town crier proclaimed it as a meeting place for volunteers to fight for Charles I.

It is 5 minutes walk to Sandwich Railway station. Sandwich has been bypassed by the A256 road which connects the Thanet towns to Dover. It is reached from Canterbury by the A257 which joins the A256 at Sandwich.
