The Chat Moss Hotel was origanly the ticket office for the Glazbury and Bury Lane railway station on the Manchester to Liverpool line built in 1830 by George Stephenson. This was the first passanger railway in the World. Opened on 15 September 1830 by the Liverpool and Manchester Railwayas as Bury Lane. In July 1878 it was renamed Glazebury and Bury Lane. The station closed on 7 July 1958 the station became a hotel shortly affter. Some of the original features can still be seen.
