Clare itself is rich in history with the Lords of De Clare jostling for position in the medieval court. Clare Castle was home to one of the richest women in England in 1350- Elizabeth De Burgh. In fact one of the crown jewels was found nearby when the Victorian railway was being built. The Bell Hotel itself dates back to at least 1570 when it was known as The Green Dragon. Some of the beams are even older as they were taken from Clare Priory.
Clare hosts several independent shops a country park and antique dealers. There s plenty to see and do.
