Once you arrive at our hotel you can t help but notice that this small hotel has being here for a good number of years. We (the Pound Family) brought the hotel in June 2009 but we have not been the sole owners of this beautiful hotel. The building was built way back in 1814 and has out seen many owners but please do not panic the building may be over 2000 years old we have spent love and money on it to make sure it is anything but old and dated. As you would expect from any hotel we have in each of our 18 en-suite bedrooms a bathroom with bath and/or shower colour flat screen TV s direct dial telephone radio hairdryers tea and coffee making facilities and Free Wi-Fi as standard and we have 4 executive rooms and a four-poster room for that bit of extra luxury. On week day mornings between 7 and 10 am or on weekends between 8 and 10 am you will find our fantastic cooked breakfast which also can come gluten-free dairy-free vegetarian or vegan.



We service evening meals so there is no need to worry after hard days walk in the mountains shopping in Kendal or Ulverston indoor climbing in Kendal paddle boarding on the lake going banana s at go ape in Graizdale forest cycling around a lake or having some tree top madness in Ambleside. All you need to do is grab yourself a refreshing drink and work your way through our regular extensive menu or maybe our free from award winning menu that is gluten-free dairy-free and vegan. Once you have had your delicious starter and mains you need to have a try of our great taste award winning desserts.



We are well placed for anyone visiting the Lake District or Furness area. This is because we are located in the world heritage site Lake District meaning we are only 5 to 10 minutes from Windermere lake itself 15 to 20 minutes away from Bowness 15 to 20 minutes away from Coniston 10 minutes from Cartmel 5 minutes away from Greenodd 10 minutes from Ulverston 15 to 20 minutes from Barrow 10 to 15 minutes from kirkby
