Caroline House is a 19th Century home offering spacious comfortable accommodation in the conservation fishing village of Spittal situated only minutes from a splendid long sandy beach. The walled promenade leads to cliff top walks to the south affording spectacular sea views towards Holy Island and the Farne Islands.To the north is the Tweed Estuary with excellent views along the Tweed and across the river to the walled town of Berwick upon Tweed one mile from Spittal.
An ideal base for exploring Bamburgh Holy Island Farne Islands and the Scottish Borders.The coastline of Spittal and the Tweed Estuary is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Feeling active Cycle the Coast and Castles route we are on the National Cycle Route or take a more leisurely stroll along our splendid coastal walks. Explore the stunning Elizabethan walls of Berwick - dating back to 1558. Berwick Walls are considered to be the best preserved walled defences in Europe.
Want something more leisurely then why not try mud larking at the mouth of the river. See if you can find some remnants from the towns industrial past or search for agates quartz and carnelians carried down the Tweed from the border hills. Or collect sea glass Codd marbles or if you re lucky bottle stoppers from the river and the sea beaches.
Looking for an Away Day then Scotland s capital Edinburgh with its many tourist attractions is a 50 minute train journey away. The shops Quayside and wonderful architecture of Newcastle upon Tyne is also only a 55 minute train journey in the opposite direction.
Caroline House offers spacious accommodation in a peaceful seaside setting. We have a double room with en-suite facilities and a twin/double with private bathroom. Each room is equipped with free broadband hospitality tray digital TV radio and hairdryer. Ironing facilities are available. There is free WiFi access in all rooms.
