- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2023Wow! Why I didn't just buy this months ago baffles me. Its better than expected and I own some beautiful books. Don't get la morte d athur instead of this trust me. There are to many illustrations to upload and every chapter has a coloured heading as well as golden boarders and little emblems. You can spend 100s and not get the satisfaction this gives on the shelf. Barnes and Nobles leatherbounds are going to be my next collectors craze. Hope this review helps for those of us who hesitate based on reviews, I know I did. 😉

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2020Cracking little book. Looks great as to be expected from the Barnes and noble collection. I was expecting the bonded leather to have a more leather feel and look to it like the others I've purchased but it still looks the part within my collection. Stunning illustrations inside to. The colour isn't as bright purple as the photo shows and j think this is a good thing....certainly looks more synthetic and majestic.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 March 2020A (slightly) mixed review - firstly the good. The book itself is absolutely beautiful, 100% lovely quality! bonded leather with gold inlaid title and text, on the front back and spine. Silver coloured page edges, and a cloth bookmark. absolutely gorgeous. the book is also fully illustrated with classic 'olde worlde' pictures which add to the atmosphere and overall impression.
now the mixed - the book is a selection of the arthurian tales, and due to the 'relatively' small size, there are some notable commissions - eg nothing atall on Sir Lancelot. no tristan and isolde, no Galahad. Nothing about the fall of Arthur, the final battle, Mordred. The birth of Arthur himself is also glossed over, and makes no mention of Uther's deception in tintagel, with Merlin's help. On the very last page, Howard Pyle states that he will continue the tales at some further point, as there is much to add. So in no way can this be considered complete, more like a brief overview of some of the stories.
Now to the stories themselves. Overal, a mixed selection, with some stories being done very well and in detail, such as the fall of Merlin at the hands of Morgan Le Fay. However many pages are given over to lesser tales, which become quite repetitive - another joust described in exactly the same way. Multiple stories detail the dishonour / fall of Knights all in exactly the same repetitive way, always at the hands of women. At the end of the book i was a little bored by the repetitiveness of some of the outcome(s). I would have loved to see a bit more variety in the book with some of the other important events covered. But it is what it is. Despite the problems, the book is presented so wonderfully, with several of the stories being told so well, that i am sure this book will stay on my shelves for many years to come, along with a couple of other Arthurian books to flesh out the other tales. Overall 3.5 out of 5, rounding up to 4.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 November 2019This book was a gift for my 11 year old grandson who loves all of the old legends and myths. He was really pleased with this and I delighted at the joy in his face as he opened it. I was pleased with the book with its classic style cover in purple leather (I think it's leather). There are some lovely pen and ink style drawings through out and it has a ribbon bookmark, also in purple colour. Overall, a lovely present.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loyalty, long suffering and beautiful illustrations
Howard Pyle is a wonder of a story teller. His insight into the morals of the king Arthur tales are very inspirational and in my opinion, this is a book every one should read, it would do a world of good for everyone to be thinking about these higher values. Loyalty and long-suffering, this book is hardcore in a way modern literature can't quite match. The illustrations are beautiful, and thanks to barns and noble's binding, the book also looks great on my shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice
They say not to judge a book by it's cover, but then there's Barnes and Noble Leatherbound Classics. Stunning style and presentation, silver page edges and a silver ribbon marker. The book is filled with illustrations and handy small summaries at the sidelines of each page, so you know in a quick glance what the page is about. The styling, the old English wording and illustrations of this book are all very similar to The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, also from Barnes and Noble. So if you like this one, get the other one too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
Beautiful book! leather cover gives luxurious feeling when reading. But as it is hardcover the book is heavy and might be difficult for children to hold it for long time. But if you are buying for collection go for it without any doubt
