In Make Your Own Rules Diet, Tara Stiles introduces you to easy and fun ways to bring yoga, meditation and healthy food into your life. As the designer and face of Reebok's first yoga lifestyle line, author of Yoga Cures and Slim, Calm, Sexy Yoga, and the founder of Strala - the movement-based system that ignites freedom, known for its laid-back and unpretentious vibe - Tara has long been a proponent of creating a tension-free healthy life by tapping into the unique needs of her clients. Tara stresses the importance of practicing with ease - leaving the discomfort and tension behind - because what you practice is what you manifest. -Six yoga routines specifically designed to up energy levels, curb cravings, drop pounds and enhance peace
-Eight breathing and meditation practices to soothe the soul
-50 simple, delicious, plant-based recipes that can be made in minutes
-A 7-day kick-start programme and a 30-day transformation plan to launch readers on their healthy, happy, radiant path.

Named "Yoga Rebel" by the New York Times, Tara Stiles has inspired a wide audience around the world with her relatable approaches to yoga, meditation, exercise, awareness, nutrition, and everyday well-being. Tara is the founder and owner of Strala Yoga, widely known for its unpretentious, inclusive, and straightforward approach to yoga and meditation. She is the personal yoga instructor to Deepak Chopra, with whom she's collaborated to create several apps and DVDs, among other projects. Jane Fonda named Tara "the new face of fitness" and Vanity Fair declared her the "Coolest Yoga Instructor Ever."

Tara has been featured in Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Lucky, InStyle, Esquire, Shape, Self, Fit Perez, and Fit Sugar, and profiled by The New York times, Times of India, The Times (UK), and Sweeden's Dagnes Nyheter. Tara is the designer and face of Reebok's yoga lifestyle line, launching globally in 2013. She is the author of two top selling books: Slim Calm Sexy Yoga and Yoga Cures and she has created several DVD series collaborations with Jane Fonda, Deepak Chopra, Tia Mowry, Brooklyn Decker and ELLE Magazine. She recently released an epic six hour complete yoga encyclopedia DVD series called This is Yoga. Recently, the Alliance For A Healthier Generation, Bill Clinton's initiative to combat childhood obesity, tapped Tara to help promote activity to the 14,000+ participating schools.

As Vanity Fair noted, "Tara Stiles has got to be the coolest yoga instructor ever."

“One of the things I like about her is her ability to make yoga accessible to people who might be scared of it or think it might be too esoteric,”

--Jane Fonda

“We are both nonconformists who have incurred the wrath of traditional yogis,” Mr. Chopra said of Ms. Stiles, whom he now considers his personal instructor. “A lot of the criticism is resentment of her rapid success. I have been doing yoga for 30 years. I have had teachers of all kinds. Taking lessons from her has been more useful to me than taking yoga from anyone else.

--Deepak Chopra

Love this book. There are a lot of tasty and easy recipes in here with some information about the nutritional values.
There is also a seven day and thirty day meal, yoga and meditation plan, which I've found really helpful to bring myself back on track on busy and stressful days.
Tara Stiles' story is honest and open about her attitude towards food, yoga, meditation and feeling great. Her writing is delightful, encouraging and funny as she writes about her realisation to listen to her body. While this book may not be for everyone, I think it holds some good thought-provoking lessons. If you are looking for a way to fit more ease into your life through cooking, yoga and/or meditation, then I recommend this book. Big thumbs up.

This is a nice book - a good read and I like Tara's sensible, down to earth approach. I do her FitStar yoga and really enjoy that and the book is a nice extension. The recipes are basic but good - the book is well produced, good photos, lots to read and very non intimidating. I've still not converted to green juice every day - but maybe once day soon : )

Beautiful book written in an informative but friendly manner. Its not patronising and also not dictative, it just helps you find your own way. Really enjoyable and helpful reading and has certainly helped me to look at certain things in my life a different way. I guess the title actually almost simplifies the book, because infect the book discusses not just diet but also lifestyle in general.

It gives you permission to be yourself and look within for the answers. It gives you a holistic approach to a healthier body and mind. I recommend reading it once through and then start again at the beginning slowly taking on all the tips and pointers. Enjoy!

I got this book when it was on a special deal. I considered carefully whether or not to buy it because I thought, from research, that the author had never been overweight and it can be frustrating to hear "advice" from someone who has never experienced your problem. I decided to buy it on the basis that I thought the yoga would useful for me as well as the other advice. The yoga routines are divided up for specific needs e.g. combat cravings, wind down, energise, so that's good. Each routine features at least one pose that I literally can't do but I am not advanced, so fair enough.

However, on the "diet" front I think it really shows that Tara hasn't had a weight problem. A lot of the advice here can be put in a nutshell of "listen to your body". While I fully accept that we're all different, I happen to know that that particular piece of advice doesn't work for me. She talks a lot about being sensitised to your body's needs. What I find is with office work, scheduling food and workouts around meetings and social life, stressful commutes etc, a lot of this advice may be good but can't be put into practice easily. I may not be hungry at lunchtime but if I listen to my body I will be starving and not concentrating when the 2pm-4pm meeting is running. So I would suggest you only buy this book if you are happy with that kind of approach. Yes, it's "make your own rules" and that would incorporate my problem, but really, there are not even many guidelines here. I had thought perhaps she would suggest a number of approaches that might match different psychological types, but there's very little suggestion at all.

The recipes do look lovely and I will definitely be trying some. However, Tara seems to be against counting calories - in as much as she is against anything, she is really laid back which is nice - and I am finding calorie counting works really well for me.

I bought this book for a little bit of extra inspiration and to be honest, it's not great for that. For me it's good for the yoga and for the calm approach she has. If you're looking for a diet book that has a range of suggestions to suit different types of people, this isn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes, Simple is GOOD!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 January 2015
The overall message of this book is something that needs to be said, and definitely needs to be put out there. It seems so many people are obsessed with finding the perfect diet or weight-loss program, and Tara simply says we don't need more programs; we need to learn to listen to ourselves and our intuition. It may seem simple, but in this noisy, chaotic world, its often the last thing we turn to.

I gave this book five stars because I feel its such an empowering and important message. Otherwise, it is a very simple book (and that is actually a good thing). Again, we (as a society) gravitate to the complicated and overly-complex because we believe that is how things must be in order for them to work! If so, wouldn't they be working? Wouldn't we have more happy people with fewer weight issues in this country if that were the truth? So maybe the whole idea of listening to ourselves and learning to trust our intuition is something that is worth investigating.

There is quite a bit of yoga in this book, but again, it fits in with Tara's overall approach of ease and gentleness. There is nothing in-your-face about this book. Its like having a chat with a good friend, and she's telling you what works for her, and if you want to try it, great; if you don't, that's great, too. There is no pressure, no guilt, and a major emphasis placed on (you guessed it!) making your own rules!

The recipes are also simple but definitely nutritious. They are all plant-based and contain simple ingredients and a simple prep process. There is nothing overly complicated here, either: just straight up good food, prepared simply and deliciously. There aren't a ton of recipes, but the ones that are included are so versatile that you could have them a million different ways if you wanted to.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this book. Tara's message is desperately needed in this world, and I really gravitated to her gentle, laidback attitude. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tu fai le regole!
Reviewed in Italy on 6 May 2015
