Amazon Review
"I'm trying to relate."
"It pisses people off. It makes them think that their experiences are nothin' special. Everyone wants to feel special. You already feel special because you've got all this college. You gotta remember that the average Joe on the force is a high school graduate, maybe a couple of years at a junior college like me. If you're real smart, okay, you do a four-year state, then enter the academy with the idea of doing the gold."
"Like my dad--"
"Stop mentioning your dad. He isn't a legend, Decker, he's a pencil pusher." As the teasing escalates, Cindy's stalked, threatened and finally frightened, although it pains her to admit it. There's a killer on the loose, and even if she's not the best cop on the force, she knows enough to turn to her father for help. But first, she has a brief affair with one of the men under his command. It seems a little too obvious a ploy for Daddy's attention and hardly adds to her character--we already know she's immature and a bit of a bitch. But at least this manoeuvre brings Peter back on the scene, allowing Kellerman to hit her stride as she gets back to a character who holds the reader's interest because he's more than two-dimensional. Sadly, Cindy's not quite ready for prime time; perhaps she'll grow up in her next outing. Or better yet, Kellerman will bring us more adventures by Peter and Rina. --Jane Adams
Review
The page-turner of a plot is fuelled by Kellerman's seemingly boundless knowledge of the psychological mind-set of both cops and criminals... Many compelling characters and asides on everything from religion to family dynamics... Another winner ― Booklist
`This novel is very exciting' ― Mail On Sunday
Unpredictable...well-told and complicated story ― New York Times

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 February 2020i LOVE THESE BOOKS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY MORE ON THE WAY. THE WRITING IS SO GOOD AND ALWAYS A BRILLIANT READ.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2017Not her best but still very good.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2001Cindy Decker is a rookie cop who seems to be riding on her father's reputation as a long serving lieutenant. When scary things start happening to Cindy she doesn't want to report them for fear of looking like a wimp in front of her fellow cops. In deciding to go it alone she inadvertantly puts herself and her family in danger. It doesn't take long for her father to figure that there is something wrong and he sets about finding out exactly what is going on. it turns into a race against the clock for her father to save both Cindy and his family. This was the first Faye Kellerman book I read and I was gripped from start to finish, and what an absolutely blinding finish it was! The best book I have read for a long time, I'd definately recommend it
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 March 2017very good book, the first one I have read from this author. Love the characters. I have ordered more form Faye to read
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 2014This has certainly not got the intricate story line of some of Faye Kellerman's Decker/Lazarus novels.
But it is still a well-written and entertaining read.
Cindy can be impetuous and brattish, but she also has some good qualities, for example note
The love she has for her younger half-sister, Hannah.
Cindy has a lot of growing up to do!
I like the way she skillfully weaves the religious family life of Peter and Rina's family into the
novels.
In this one we see how observation of Shabbos (the Jewish Sabbath) is a beautiful and welcome respite from
the chaotic and amoral world outside.
Overall, entertaining , and flows easily.
There are however some loose ends left undone , for example we never find out who it was that was behind the attack on Rina in the park.
It is also better to begin the Decker/Lazarus series with one of Faye Kellerman's earlier novels.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 December 2012This is the twelfth in the Decker series. Great series imho.
Back Cover Blurb:
It began with a policewoman's sixth sense. Someone is watching her. Then, after the break-in and the midnight car pursuit, she knows. Someone wants to frighten her. Someone wants to hurt her.
But why?
As an inexperienced policewoman, daughter of one of the force's veterans, admitting what's happening feels like a confession of weakness. There seems no option for Cindy Decker but to go it alone, keeping her colleagues and family in the dark. And in a world in which someone is trying to kill you, alone is a very frightening place.....
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 November 2015Overlong - very little happens until later pages. Threequarter page descriptions of someone's kitchen (totally irrelevant) is something I can do without. Cops WOULD NOT behave as stupidly as this "heroine" does - unbelievable.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read.
The series main character's daughter was a big focus in this story. She has become a frustrating character in many ways, with dis-likeable qualities, but as the story progressed it was showing her development as a person. The plot became quite exciting to read, with some good twists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faye Kellerman Mystery
My review of this book is the same as with ALL of her books. My husband and I read all of them, especially the Decker/Lazarus books. Being Jewish, we feel connected. I do recommend all of her books.
