About the author
Welcome! My name is Richard McMunn and I started the 'How2Become' series of books back in 2005 when I was working as a Firefighter for Kent Fire & Rescue Service. I initially started selling the books through my website http://www.How2Become.com but soon expanded the range on Amazon.
Before joining the Fire Service I spent 4 years in the Fleet Air Arm on-board HMS Invincible. During my career I was heavily involved in recruitment and regularly sat on interview panels in addition to creating recruitment tests and scoring application forms and CVs.
Many of my books not only include details of how to pass a selection process, but I also provide sample responses to the application form questions and also the interview questions. I have helped 100s of people to secure a job and I believe I can help you to do the same.
Many of the books I have authored have been written in conjunction with people currently serving in that particular field. Sometimes, a member of the How2Become staff go through a selection process so that we can provide you the most up-to-date content to help you succeed.
My books are created from a desire to help people achieve their goals and I am sure you will find my books inspiring and motivational.
I hope you enjoy my books,
Richard McMunn

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 December 2013This booklet arrived in good time and was just as I ordered. A great help for my grandson who hopes to join the RAF as a pilot.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2017This is a useful guide to anyone considering applying to the RAF OASC. Whilst there is nothing new in this book that you cannot glean from an online search, it is useful to have this info all in the one book. Some good examples and suggestions of how to succeed at interview. If you are nervous about the interviews and wish to be best prepared, it is an inexpensive way to help your preparation.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2018As a Wing Commander RAF Ret'd., I think that this is a "necessary" for those aspiring aircrew status.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2013Brilliant book, full of really useful information and tips. Really recommend it for anyone going for officer selection ! !
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2017Item as described and arrived on time.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2014This is only rated as 4 star because some areas go against what I have been taught in interviews, not to waffle. The answers given are good, yet seem to waffle and detract from the questions in some areas. There are some nice interviews tips and good ideas, it will never hurt buying a book like this to aid in preparation.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2015The Good points:
The interview questions and suggested answers were very useful. The implied process of what the RAF grade you on, though basic, allows you to focus on areas to develop. It is a good beginner guide to what to expect and what they RAF are looking for and what you can expect from the RAF Personnel.
Bad points:
It is really printed common sense in terms of tips on being a good candidate: "turn up to the interview". Other tips promote you on doing research... which I thought this book was. Specifically I am interested in being a Regiment Officer and learnt more about the entry process through Wikipedia that in this book. I honestly thought for the price that it would go into critical and analysing detail but again it is just the basic overview. Wish there was more elaboration to what you need to do within the exercise, rather than a list of attributes without examples of how to show or develop them.
A little disappointing. However, to be fair the interview questions are very useful and even a basic overview of the entry process allows you to develop your preparation in the right direction. Though there are good points I have overlooked stating it does it's job and specific tips on social involvement was brilliant in my preparation and overall has given me targets to my action plan, even if it has given me limited advice to solve them.
