First things first: don't go in expecting a strict adherence to canon. For one thing, it has Jane Foster as a Museum Curator. Beyond that, it's a very enjoyable, very sweet, and often very funny take on the Thor mythos, showing his development into the hero we know and love - and it even explains the dated English Asgardians tend to use. Highly recommended.

I read a library copy of the paperback.
Sorry, I tried, I really did try to like this trade.
If this presented itself as ‘an imaginary tale’ ‘a parallel universe interpretation’ or a ‘possible reinvention’ then I might just about accept it but whilst this is an engaging enough series, it’s just not ‘my’ Thor.
There are all the character ingredients, Jane Foster, Asgard, Odin, Loki, even the Warriors Three but the simplistic art and the comedy expressions overshadow the storyline and set a tone much more ‘for younger readers’ than I would like.
There are interesting spins on Thor’s early encounters with Giant-Man and the Wasp, the Sub-Mariner and Captain America but they conflict with established continuity too much for my tastes and the appearance of Captain Britain and a ridiculously clunky Iron Man whilst well written are continuity retcons too far.
The sub-title of the ‘Mighty Avenger’ is annoyingly incorrect too – he avenges nothing and this all takes place before the formation of the Avengers as a team at all.
If you want ‘the Ladybird collection of Thor’ then go for this otherwise try stronger stuff

5.0 out of 5 stars The best feel good Thor comics!
Reviewed in the United States on 7 March 2013
I'm so glad I purchased this. I've been waiting for a complete collection of this for about a year and a half now and I pre-ordered this 3 months ago with my Amazon Prime trial to get release-day delivery. In the end, the wait was definitely worth it.

First off what really makes this collection shine is the relationship between Thor and Jane Foster. The dynamic between these two has never been written better. I actually found it romantic, sweet and I don't want to use this word but honestly I found them adorable. I can't help but smile at the two of them.

That's just one part, the action as well is fun and exciting. Thor is shown as strong, powerful and capable of holding his ground, but he isn't perfect. He's eager to fight, head-strong and can make mistakes. This Thor has a few weaknesses, but it makes it a lot more satisfying when he overcomes the odds that are stacked against him.

The guest-stars in each story are all unique and bring something different to the table for Thor. You get Mr. Hyde, Giant-Man, Warriors-Three, Captain Britain, Namor, Hiemdall/Fing-Fang-Foom, Iron-Man and Captain America. The only disappointing thing is that in the character designs, you could see Langridge had a Hulk story in the works, but the series was unfortunately cancelled and we never got to see that.

Facial-expressions and artwork are fantastic. Many are creative and over the top and you can really see what the character is feeling at that exact moment. Has a very old-school feel to it and the book is meant for all ages, so it was intended. This book put me in a good-mood and I actually plan to go back to it, if I just want to put a smile on my face. I read this after finishing the first 5 issues of Thor: God of Thunder. Those issues are dark and incredible, but this was a great break from the dark colors, seriousness and death.

I don't know how much a non-Thor fan would appreciate this. I also don't know if this book is mature enough for some readers. I'm 18 and I thought this was fun and is a great re-imagining of Thor. I only wish the series would of continued. This is also a perfect way to introduce a younger reader into the world of Thor. It is simple and isn't complex like Gillen's Journey into Mystery series, which is. also incredible. Fun-issues, with touching feel good moments, packed with action and guest-stars!

It's not Simonson or Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, but it's still 5/5 stuff and a great addition to my Thor collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Une belle relecture

5.0 out of 5 stars Thor the Swashbuckler!
Reviewed in the United States on 23 May 2015
I ordered this book by accident and before I reciieved the TBP, I decieded to keep it because it was a Complete Collectiom by Roger Langridge. the other reviews do a much better job than a I can. But here is a little describtion anyway. Most Mighty Thor story lines are more on the dark and seriois side, glad I ordered by mistske it was completely the oppposite, a very good swashbuckling bunch of stories, must have been his day off. Very humorous and lighted hearted stories minor spoiler. My favorite story is one when him and his buddies are in a bar and get good and drunk and create all kinds of havoc all in good fun nobody gets hurt . This TBP does not have the typical God of Thunder action, just plain good time stories and all are well, written, fantastic artwork and style of graphics, for time this was published I highly recommend this TBP, you get to see a side of Thor that you proably haven't seen, a more human side. It is well worth the $$$ and will not disappoint. This is only my 4th Thor TBP. So I am not an expert but enjoy this character in his own books and when team up with other Soper Hero's.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unfinished gem

This is a fun little book with some great art by Chris Samnee and with a whole lot of heart with the story and characters.
Thor and Jane Foster are both entertaining to read and the appearances of other Marvel heroes are well appreciated. If there’s a major problem with the book though it’s that we never get a resolution to the overall plot because of the title’s early cancellation (although the book does end on a good note.) Despite the lack of a proper ending I would still say that this is a worthwhile read for fans of the mighty avenger.
