This is very convent for connecting drives from an Atomos video recorder and much cheaper than the official dock.
The item was well packaged and the lead is a good length if you have your computer or dock placed on the desk. It would be too short for directly connecting to a desktop.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2024Size Name: USB 3.0 | 2.5"Verified PurchaseUsing this on my Raspberry Pi 4 with a Samsung 850 EVO instead of an SD card. I bought a cheaper version from another site first and was only getting 30MB/s sequential write speed, after swapping it for this cable my sequential write speed has increased to 322 MB/s. Transferring files over the network via samba is reaching the limit of the Ethernet cable. If you've got a raspberry pi and you're looking to boot from an SSD this will work great.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2015Size Name: USB 3.0 | 2.5"Verified PurchaseThis is a very useful connector with a suitable cable length for using with an external 2.5inch HDD or SSD.
It allows the fast USB 3 transfer speed, so its good to back up a laptop or games console to an external drive.
If you have a smart tv like some Samsung's which allow recording, you can attach an external drive to a usb 3 or 2 socket on the tv and record to it. With 2.5" drives now being up to 2 terrabytes, this little cable connector becomes even more useful for simple plug and play with many modern devices.
You could for example store your entire music collection on 1 or more external drives, easily put one in your pocket and just plug it into any usb media player, tv, av amp or even car cd player with usb and you will always have your choice of entertainment with you wherever you are.
Obviously it won't work with 3.5" drives as there is not enough juice to power them but for the now ever cheaper 2.5" variety this can be an often used, inexpensive and versatile bit of kit. Everyone who likes modern home entertainment or who backs up their pc's and laptops should have one of these.

Quality item, no issues so far connecting a 6TB drive and using with RPI4 and open media vault.

I've been using a couple of these at home, and found them very useful and versatile. Perfect for connecting SSDs to a PC for formatting, etc., and work extremely well in combination with cheap 32Gb SATA SSDs with Raspberry Pi 3B and 3B+ computers. They will also power 2.5 SATA hard drives, should you wish to use them.
I'm a teacher, and recently acquired for my classroom a complete set of Raspberry Pi 3Bs. I use 20+ of these cables with 32Gb SSDs to provide the working environment for my pupils. These cables *just work*, and make the task of getting the pupils up and running at the start of each lesson really easy.
Top recommendation. Great piece of kit. There may be cheaper alternatives on Amazon, but I'm sticking with these for the next classroom I fit out.

Purchased to allow the connection of a cheap 30Gb SSD to a Raspberry Pi 3B, to act as the OS drive for an experimental server. Worked flawlessly, and even can work with a 500Gb 2.5" SATA drive I had kicking around -- powered from the Pi, which in turn was powered by a USB to microUSB cable from a monitor!
This, plus a cheap SSD make the Pi an excellent and reliable tool -- I cannot rely on microSD cards for longevity, and USB flash drives, though an acceptable substitute, are not as good as an SSD and one of these cables. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Narrow SATA connection fits drives that are inside caddies
Size Name: USB 3.1 | 2.5"Verified PurchaseI sometimes need to transfer data from laptop drives that are screwed into a metal caddy. Adapters with wider SATA connector blocks require the drive to be removed from the caddy first. Not a big deal, but this is more convenient.
The cable is 16" long, which is a good length, allowing versatile positioning of the drive and easy coiling to fit into my toolbox.
The adapter works great and seems well built. Unlike other adapters, this one shows up in Windows' "safe ejection" dialog as the model of the hard drive itself, rather than the model of the adapter's chipset, which is helpful.
The only thing it lacks that would be good to have is an activity indicator LED so I know whether the drive is active or idle.
