About the author
First and foremost a comic creator, Kirkman has seen groundbreaking success in the adaptation of his comic book titles into major franchises in all forms of content. In 2010, his Eisner award winning series, The Walking Dead, was developed into an AMC television series. It has become a worldwide phenomenon as the highest-rated basic cable drama of all time and is the #1 show on television among the coveted 18-49 demo. The property has also been extended into a blockbuster game franchise, licensing business and ongoing publishing success.
Kirkman also serves as consulting producer of The Talking Dead, the popular talk show hosted by Chris Hardwick that deep dives into each week’s episode of both The Walking Dead and its companion series Fear the Walking Dead. Kirkman is co-creator, writer and producer of The Walking Dead’s companion series, Fear the Walking Dead.
He is also executive producer of the AMC series Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics, and the Korean pre-apocalyptic drama, Five Year. Kirkman’s popular demonic-exorcism comic, Outcast, was adapted, produced and airs on Cinemax.
For the big screen, Kirkman will produce Invincible based on his long-running popular comic book. The project will be written, directed and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for Universal Pictures. Other credits include AIR featuring Norman Reedus and Academy Award nominee, Djimon Hounsou.
Additional Kirkman comics include Super Dinosaur, Battle Pope, Astounding Wolf-Man, and Thief of Thieves.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2010I love the Invincible series, I have the 5 Ultimate collections and they are well worth buying, but this collection is suffering from the same problems most comics do when they get into the 50+ issues, getting a little tired and losing it's impetus. Which is a real shame because up to now this has been the most refreshing and awesomely told comic for an age. I hope that the next collection improves and gets back on track.
One other gripe is what the hell have they done to his costume? The new one is pretty much crap and a big step backwards in style.
Hope they change it for the better soon.
Still an excellent read, but could be losing it's place as one of the best comic series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2010Invincible is a cross between Ultimate Spider-Man (he's a teenager), Superman (he's very powerful and partly not from Earth) and a S.H.I.E.LD. agent (he works for a secret governmental agency). In this volume, Invincible parts with his mentor, develops a love relationship with a super-powered girl, and tries to train a mega-powerful kid half-brother. Oh, and he gets to use his fists quite a bit too. Parental advisory: in the Invicible world, when someone gets punched in the nose, he bleeds. So, when someone is hit at super speed with super strength, his guts and blood are all over the place. Hey, Kirkman is a zombie freak after all! You sense that this volume takes place in a lull before something very big. A mega cross-over inter-galactic war most probably. The writing is very good and so are the drawings. You should start with Invincible: The Ultimate Collection Volume 1: v. 1 if you're not already acquainted.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2023I have collected and read all twelve now and loved them all! Great format to read as well not too big like an absolute or heavy and unwieldy like an omnibus! Good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dark Age of comics done right.
This volume of Invincible pushes our hero to the brink. With increasingly dangerous foes and a new "dark" costume, Invincible must deal with the fact that the government he's been working for is not all it seems, someone seems to be spying on him, his anger is getting out of control, and his brother has no qualms about killing and the way he justifies it makes Invincible question his own morals. This volume deals with the idea that someone as powerful as Superman could easily kill anyone who threatens the world, but should he? It's what the dark age of comics tried to do, showing the heroes questioning their ideals in a world where the villains don't learn their lesson and don't try to reform. While this volume doesn't finish the story arc, it is a good read for Invincible fans and introduces the villain Powerplex, an interesting villain that I want to see more of. Highly Recommended.
